Needed files recovered from my old laptop which would not turn on. Their price estimate beat everyone else's I talked to significantly. Mark was friendly and helpful and had all my files recovered and ready to pick up the next day. Will continue to go there with any computer issues. Highly recommend

I'm one of those people who is probably incredibly irritating to computer techs--I've grown up around computers and know just enough to be dangerous (and get frustrated by the typical 'did you try restarting it' response) but I'm not confident enough to order and reinstall hardware parts by myself. I've gotten the run-around from GeekSquad enough that I figured it was time to look into local services. Annapolis Computers is the first I've tried, and while I don't think they're a great fit for everyone, they were good for exactly what I needed from them. Pros: -Practicality. Gave me an up-front time and labor cost, explained that if parts needed to be ordered it would be more, and then took good notes while listening intently to my problem.
Didn't ask the 'rookie questions'. -Care. These are guys you can trust with your machine. Took an additional hour after the call that they'd finished my motherboard install to make sure it booted okay and ran diagnostics and bug sweeps, and cautioned me that they were noticing a little slowness and that my hard drive would be a problem I would face in future but was otherwise running fine (again, points for practicality).
They also cleaned things all out for me, which as a person who lives with two constantly-shedding cats I deeply appreciated. -Speed. They were super-fast. Had given me an estimate that they might have to push me into next week, but they got it done ASAP--I came in on a Thursday, diagnosed and called me to order the MB same-day, the part was delivered late Thursday night and they had it installed and ready to take home Friday afternoon. Cons: Nothing here was a super-strong con for me (as you can tell by my 5-star review) and I would definitely still recommend them to friends and family--listing these more so others can know what to expect going in. -Cost.
Between the labor charge, the cost of purchasing the new motherboard, and the future of potential hard drive problems, I'm stuck in the awkward place where it ended up being almost as expensive as buying a brand-new computer of the same brand, but since they'd already started the labor of inspection it would've been significantly more to change my mind and do that. However, this didn't ultimately factor into my decision--I get that new MBs are expensive to replace and it was still about the same price I could've expected from GeekSquad with way less hassle, and they WERE very apologetic about it and did call to confirm with me that I was okay to make that purchase first before they ordered the part for me.
The saving of my old data and settings is a bonus (smallish for me since I am careful to do regular backups, but still nice). -Customer experience Again, this wasn't a huge negative for me, but I can see where other people would be off-put. I worked with two of their techs, and man, these guys are brusque. I actually thought it was kind of nice for a change--much better than the assumptive-stupid-but-still-friendly experience I've had at GeekSquad--but it's a little like working with doctors, where you ought to prepare your list of questions for them in advance.
I think that they're so comfortable in THEIR knowledge that they assume you know and can talk shop at a rapid pace. So, who would I ultimately recommend them to? Probably the middle category of people like me, where you know how to manually install updates and can run basic diagnostic programs like Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag on your computer, but are too strapped for experience or time to do more complicated installs. If you're decently secure in what you know you don't know how to do, definitely bring it to these guys.

Professional, prompt and reasonably priced computer repair service I have received excellent service from Annapolis Computers over the years, and I find their staff patient and knowledgeable. Their rates for shop and on-site (at my place of business) work are reasonable. I recently had serious problems with two laptops, both operating slowly and erratically, and one overloaded with unused software. Annapolis Computers diagnosed and corrected all problems and returned the computers to me in two days.
I had a follow-up question on one, and Annapolis Computers quickly answered the question. Both computers work very well now. I also had a problem with a 5-year old HP printer which several days and three HP on-line technicians could not fix. Annapolis Computers identified and solved the problem successfully by on-line and on-site troubleshooting.

It was a pleasure working with Annapolis Computers. My computer was severely acting up and I knew it was time for a professional to look at it. I was concerned that I would lose valuable productivity hours during the day. Yet they were able to set up a conference call and remotely fix my computer while I sat in my office working. Annapolis Computers troubleshot the issue quickly and knew the fix almost immediately. The fix was quick and they were very reasonable in their pricing. Most importantly, it did not cause me lengthy downtime. Thanks for your services.
