Ralph studied engineering and business administration at UC Berkeley. After completing his BS and MBA degrees he designed and implemented computer systems for several Fortune 500 firms. In 2000 he decided to bring his computer expertise to tiny business and domestic customers. In his free time, Ralph enjoys family outings with his son Ben and his wife Melissa.

I have been healing sick Computers my entire career. They get "sick" for a variety of reasons ranging from hardware failure to bad software updates to opening a poisoned email to operator error, etc. Get you the right network provider for your needs (the choices are limited - AT&T, Comcast, Sonic, depending on what's available at your location).

Berkeley and over 30 years experience dealing with computer gremlins, disasters, major and minor problems, setups, installs, programming, networking, and applications for equipment ranging from personal computers to mainframes, I am uniquely qualified and experienced to support your computer system and network.
My normal service area depends on the time of day and the weather and the daily traffic surprises. Roughly speaking it is anywhere within 25 driving miles from Oakland and less than 40 minutes in each direction. So I listen to the traffic reports and go to 511.org a lot. Having said that, due to the horrendous traffic, I charge travel time for clients beyond my normal service area.

This is my second review of the Computer Maven. My first problem which was higher priority was being unable to be seen in an important Zoom meeting. Ralph gave me a tip over the phone which solved my problem and saved my bacon. Now, the second and really BIG Problem. Before Microsoft Tech Support my Workhorse Epson printer worked just fine. But AFTERWARDS my printer was caught in an endless loop printing out some kind of Epson report: Job Name set Stringcodeset=UTF8 20 lines of stuff like "Set Outbin=Upper" and then pure gibberish.
I could find no print queue. I stood by the printer and depressed the Cancel button - it didn't work I pressed the Reset button - didn't work It just went on and on like The Sorcerer's apprentice. Finally I unplugged the USB cable. Epson Support had no idea what was wrong. So I called Ralph. It took a while but the printer works properly again AND he really cleaned up the junk on my computer which was making it run really slooow, scanned it for viruses/malware, and now I feel like I have brand new shiny machine. I highly recommend the Maven.

Ralph, Computer Maven, has been a God-send for us. The previous IT guy left a mess of intertwined cables and programs - which failed regularly. Ralph has sort out the mess that we had, fixing first the cables, then the programs, and finally the passwords. I could not possibly offer a higher recommendation - good sense of humor, patience and competence!

If I could give this $200 per hour 'casual guy' self styled maven a minus I would. When he finally rolled up - one hour and a half late - no prior heads up e.g. I'm running late phone apology; walking into my office unannounced - couldn't even ring the door bell - I told him he'd blown his chance and sent him away. Which was lucky for me as I found a company that proved to be the tops.

I had the worst customer service experience ever. I called to ask Ralph a few questions about a computer that I'm building. I simply said I was hoping he might be able to answer a question I had about graphics cards and before I could even finish my sentence he rudely interrupted me and yelled back, "sorry, not possible. Goodbye!" And hung up on me before I could even ask him what he specializes in.
If that's how he treats first time callers I can't imagine how he would treat someone he services. If he didnt have the answers I was looking for but was nice about it I would definitely consider calling him about whatever he specializes in, but he was so rude I recommended everyone avoid this man.

Can't recommend Ralph. He charges by the hour $140 per. At that pricing, I expected my computer to run like a Swiss watch after he left. He spent two plus hours "tuning up" my computer, reverting from the latest Windows 10 release, to a "Windows Classic Shell" and removing some superfluous applications. At one point he suggested malware was to blame for my connectivity issues, even though my McAfee was showing clean.
He installed some freeware, Malwarebytes and CCCleaner. My network connectivity issues were worse after he left. Out of frustration and because it's one of the few things I know how to do, I rebooted my AT&T Uverse router and things are running much better now. Did Ralph's "tuneup" help? Maybe. I learned a $280 lesson that I should try simple solution before calling a technician.

Computer Maven Ralph truly is a computer expert, serving up repairs with extraordinary customer service. I had an installation problem on Friday and Google suggested contacting Computer Maven. Ralph returned my voice mail message within five minutes and we set an appointment for the very next morning. The problem turned out to be much more serious than expected; I had a very dead hard drive, requiring Ralph to take my computer and rebuild it (both hardware & software).
As it was the weekend and the work would be time consuming, he estimated that it would be completed on Monday: Tuesday at the latest. Much to my delight, Ralph contacted me mid-afternoon the very next day (Woo Hoo!) with the wonderful news that the work was completed and I could have my computer back Sunday evening. Thanks to Ralph, I now have a lean, mean computing machine. I would recommend Computer Maven to anyone for a warp speed fix.

This guy knows his stuff AND is a Hero. On MLK weekend - Sunday night my computer glitched after trying to download a driver. He came out in the POURING rain and spent two hours fixing the problem, updating the computer and making it better than it started. Knowledge and Service. I wont look anywhere else again!

Ralph was available to come to my home an hour after I called which was great as everyone else was going to take several days before my PC laptop could even be looked at. He was here 4 hours and the computer is somewhat fixed. It is a little faster and the word issue of not loading from the desktop only occasionally happens now, but I do not have confidence that my laptop is really fixed.
I am going to give it a couple of weeks and then take it somewhere else. Ralph's rate of $125 an hour makes me expect a person who brings the knowledge with them. He spent a fair amount of time looking things up on the internet to figure out the problem. Fortunately he just charged me for 2 hours

The Computer Maven has kept my two computers in working condition for the past nine years. I have found him to be knowledgeable, personable, responsible and reasonable. If the problem is minor, he will give me step-by-step directions on the telephone about how to fix it - or if that doesn't work, he will make a house call. When one of the computers "died" and couldn't be resurrected, he gave me suggestions on what to look for in its replacement. I have been, and still am very happy with his work, and recommend him without reservations.

ComputerMaven has been a real find. I've used it many times. You can search, but you will not find a better computer specialist. With timely response and availability I didn't have to wait long to have all issues resolved. From removing a Virus to setting up a new system, ComputerMaven is the only call you'll have to make.
